2007's Festival . . . This two hour, non-competitive feast of films by area filmmakers took place: 7pm on Saturday By all reports, a fun time was had by all (except those who could not make it to the festival!).
This year's festival featured works such as the University of Kansas student documentary "Rolling Into Business" by Bethany Leiker and Dustin Banbury which explored the Moon Marble Company in Bonner Springs, Ks.
On the experimental side, there was a found-footage piece from Kansas City filmmaker Michael Myers entitled "Excellent Birds."
Also featured were two anti-war works: "No Delay" - a music video for the Lawrence band Lila made by Malika Lyon created from images of peace protests throughout the world and "6° Gemini" by Kansas City experimental filmmaker Rossana Jeran about "about the insatiable drive for power, wealth and domination of oil."
Appearing for his second year, the festival also featured two comedy shorts from Franco Leng and a sci-fi/comedy/thriller "Species Felis Dominarus" by Kansas City filmmaker Jason P. Hunt. And there was plenty more to please everyone's palette. Planning is already under way for next year's festival (in the sense that I'm enjoying not thinking about it at all right now other than how to get about 50 more chairs into the Granada for the event). So, look for the 17th Annual Harvest of Arts Film Festival next year around the first weekend of October!
