The 20th Annual Harvest of Arts Film Festival took place on Friday, Sept. 30, at 7pm at the Granada The 20th Annual Harvest of Arts Film Festival is a two hour, non-competitive feast of films by area filmmakers. 20 years ago, the internet meant a BBS here and there and mobile phones were larger than a briefcase. Now entire films are shot on mobile phones and the internet is a nearly unfettered miasma of videos so trivial that piano-playing cats share greater attention of viewers than presidential speeches. But this carefully crafted and programmed festival is a chance to share the work of area filmmakers with an appreciative and enthusiastic crowd in the area’s longest-running short film festival and the only one (anywhere!?!) that costs neither filmmakers nor the crowd a dime to enjoy!
This year’s festival included new works by local favorites such as Patrick Rea (including his newest short “Hell Week”), Todd Norris (“Candy Apple Red”), and James Schweers "Nichts im die Mitte," as well as a works from relative newcomers to the scene like James Badgett (“Love and Buns”), Nathan Towns, and Joshua Nathan.
